Teeth Whitening

June 25th, 2010 · Uncategorized

Are you in High School, looking for ways to impress the girl of your dreams? Perhaps you are about to get married, and you don’t want to scare your prince charming away with just a smile. Even as a parent, you may get in a spot where your two year old crawls up onto your lap and asks “Mommy, why are your teeth yellow?” What can you do? You go to the dentist, brush your teeth at least 3 times a day, floss at least once a day, and still your teeth mar your smile in a way that you hate.

There are many ways you can whiten your teeth, and many of those ways actually work! Finding the ones that you want to whiten your teeth can be hard, and sometimes expensive. But if it means a clean, white smile, it could definitely be worth it!

First off, you can check out what is in your local grocery store. There are a few things offered that you can try, such as Crest Whitening Strips. These usually are put on for a seven to fourteen day segment, around twenty minutes each time applied. But for just those two weeks, it can be costly to get those strips, and then have to keep maintenance and re-buy them when your smile’s whiteness starts to fade. You may want to check with your dentist to make sure that these strips are a good investment for you.

Speaking of the dentist, most offices offer some kind of whitening services, check out our Dentist Tacoma office. Even if it isn’t covered by your insurance, these services can run as low as twenty dollars a treatment, which could be worth it. Now all the details depend on your personal dentist and what they offer, but we will just let you know the gist of what you can have.

As a dentist, they care about you and your smile. So, in order to give you what you want, they do what they can to give you the best. Most of the whitening products they give you are a gel like substance that you put into your retainer or tray. If you don’t have a tray, the dental office can get you one by taking a mold of your teeth, then making a tray to fit your teeth. This can benefit you by keeping your smile straight as well as clean a sort of 2 birds with one stone effect.

Back to the whitening, once your dentist knows you have one, or has made you a tray, you can start the process. Just a syringe type bottle, with a drop on the teeth you want whitened, and wearing them for two hours a day will get you the white smile you and others have always dreamed of having!

Brushing Tips

June 25th, 2010 · Uncategorized

When you brush your teeth, it’s a habit that you just do without thinking. Twice or three times a day, you find that mini brush handle sticking out of your mouth, you spitting out that white mint foam, and you’re off to other things. Of course, brushing your teeth is a good start, and a great end to any day, but only if you are brushing correctly. Here are a few brushing tips you can take to your teeth, and help you impress your dentist at your next appointment.

First of all, begin by selecting a good toothpaste. Just this part of the process can help you eliminate things such as tooth decay, gum disease, bad breath, and last but not least, bad breath. Look for Toothpaste that has fluoride, which helps prevent and repair the decaying of your tooth enamel. If you don’t know for sure which kind of toothpaste to get, why not ask your dentist, and get an answer from one who knows you and your teeth!

Once you have chosen your new favorite toothpaste, in pretty much any flavor you want, now you can go on to the next step. You need to choose the instrument that goes hand in hand, literally, with using toothpaste. That would be the toothbrush. You will want to select one that that will best fit your teeth type and gums. Most toothbrushes have an average of 2,500 bristles placed into bunches, which are fixed into the head of the brush. The handle is either plastic or rubber, and come in all different shapes and sizes depending on your comfort.

Make sure to find the brush that is long enough to hit the back molars in the mouth, so you can get better results when brushing. Lastly, on the toothbrush, you don’t have to wait every 6 months to get a new one from the dentist. Just hit one up at your nearest grocery store when the bristles start to fray, so that you can get the most out of your brushing!

Now in brushing your teeth, you don’t have to pour on the paste to get good results. Just a small bit would work, about the size of a pea. As you start to brush, do it at a 45-degree angle, and just like the hygienist said when you last went to the dentist, brush in small, circular motions.  This motion should go toward the gum line, going from the front of your teeth, to the very back corners. Also, don’t forget the other side of your teeth. Just because you can’t see in there, doesn’t mean to not brush all sides of your teeth! Once you have brushed for about three minutes, you can rinse, spit, and feel good about your smile.

Dentist

Have you ever dreaded going to the local dentist Tacoma, because of past experiences, and just not wanting to show your teeth in public? Why is it that we dread each appointment, which happens only once every six months? There are only a few reasons, but mostly it drains down to not being confident in, or liking your teeth. There are just a few things you can do to help you like your smile, and enjoy your trips in the upcoming future.

First of all, are you brushing your teeth? That may seem like a stupid statement, but a lot of people really don’t take good care of their teeth until the week before their appointment. We need to make sure we are brushing daily, and at least twice each day. Not only brushing, however, will do the trick. Make sure that toothpaste containing fluoride is used and that you are brushing correctly. Brush your teeth at a forty five degree angle and in circular motions following the gum line.

Secondly, brushing isn’t all that you need to do. As your dentist will no doubt have told you, flossing is a huge part in maintaining your healthy teeth. Using them to clean out between your teeth will help you keep your teeth and gum strong, and remove plaque and debris that would otherwise start to deteriorate your enamel. This will keep you from having cavities, and in needing to get fillings that would otherwise be unnecessary. Along with flossing, you may also consider rinsing your mouth with mouth wash, containing fluoride.

The third way to help you like your smile well would be to eat healthier foods. If your teeth are being constantly surrounded by refined sugars and carbohydrates, they will stick to your teeth, and start the deteriorating process. Even if you are brushing your teeth and flossing, eating so unhealthily will weaken your teeth. Substitute an apple for the pieces of candy, or some vegetables in place of the potato chips. This will help you like your trips to the dentist more, and find you will have a lot less problems concerning your teeth.

Lastly, why not trying to whiten your teeth? Your dentist will have a gel like substance that comes in a syringe that you put into a tray to whiten your teeth. Also there are other brand name strips that you can look through and find which kind you would like. Getting a brighter, whiter smile will help you feel better about your appearance.

In following these easy steps, and creating good healthy habits, you can discover that a trip to the dentist doesn’t have to be all that painful. You may even like smiling and opening wide, to show that your efforts are helping your teeth stay healthy, and look great!
